James Meyer was born of Mexican heritage and adopted in Lynwood, California, in 1962. By the time his family moved to the East Coast in 1967, he was already drawing and painting. In the early ‘80’s, he attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City and became the studio assistant for Jasper Johns in 1985.
While the inaugural showing of his work was in Port Jefferson, New York, when he was in high school, he has exhibited in New York City since the early ‘80’s. Meyer has lived and worked in the Northwest corner of Connecticut since the mid ‘90’s with his wife and their two children.
