Boaz Vaadia Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition   May 30, 2010 - October 15, 2010
OUTDOOR EXHIBITION Eckert Fine Art - Connecticut is pleased to announce an exhibition of major works by the sculptor, Boaz Vaadia, in the courtyard at the Kent Town Center from May 30 through October 15. The show will feature original stone sculptures as well as large bronze castings. Boaz Vaadia is an internationally known sculptor who works primarily in stone and bronze. His work is found in public locations, cultural sites, private collections and museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Norton Gallery of Art, Israel Museum and Tokyo Metropolitan. For Vaadia, stone is an enduring aspect of human environments. He collected slate from the streets of New York's Soho when its sidewalks were torn apart in the mid-1980's. More recently, his boulders have come from construction sites in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, where he has a studio. It is not surprising that his statues seem equally at home in urban and natural settings. Barbara Pollack writes in ARTNews Magazine: "Boaz Vaadia creates figures in stone that appear simultaneously ancient and futuristic. His process requires precision and patience; the sculptor chisels sheets of stratified slate, a highly fragile material, then stacks these shaped slabs into figurative forms. The final product, an accumulation of hundreds of stony strata balanced on top of one another, is secured by a system of metal armature and adhesives hidden from view. Often Vaadia later casts the sculptures in bronze editions, preserving the raw quality of the originals."
